Flighthour is a start-up founded in 2022 with the goal of bringing people closer to the world of aviation. Flight instructors are airline pilots, flight students, and engineers with aviation backgrounds and excellent knowledge. The goal is for customers to take away as much as possible from the flight experience in the simulator — learning how flights are conducted, how pilots communicate with each other and with air traffic control, and how the technology in the cockpit and aircraft works.

Located at Essener Str. 99C in Oberhausen — centrally in the Ruhr Valley and easily accessible from Duisburg, Essen, Bochum, and Dortmund — Flighthour operates an Airbus A320 simulator open to anyone from age 6 upwards with no prior experience required. Sessions start from just €29 per person, making this one of the most affordable A320 simulator experiences in Germany. Up to 5 persons can be in the simulator simultaneously, with a comfortable waiting area available for larger groups.

The Airbus A320 Simulator

The simulator is equipped with authentic A320 instruments and realistic soundscapes, creating a genuine sense of being in the aircraft. Sessions include a comprehensive briefing, takeoff, flight, and landing. Different weather scenarios add variety and additional challenge — including fog and rain — and the simulator guides participants through various emergency and urgency scenarios.

Popular route choices include a departure from Frankfurt Airport followed by landings at Cologne/Bonn or Düsseldorf — a natural Ruhr Valley regional itinerary. For 2-hour sessions, emergency scenarios such as engine failures can be simulated, along with approximately 6-7 approach and landing exercises at challenging airports such as Madeira, known for strong crosswinds.

Session Options and Pricing

30 minutes — ideal for a first taste, covering a takeoff from Frankfurt Airport and two landings, with professional briefing from a flight instructor and up to 5 additional guests welcome. Sessions can be split between multiple participants.

60 minutes — the most popular session format, covering a complete short-sector flight with time for multiple approaches and weather scenario changes. From €116.61 for the whole simulator (can be split between multiple participants from €29/person).

120 minutes — the extended experience covering emergency scenarios, engine failure simulations, and 6-7 approach exercises at challenging airports. From €209.77.

Gift vouchers are available with a validity of 36 months — one of the longest gift voucher validity periods of any simulator venue in Germany. Vouchers can be purchased online at flighthour.de or in person at the Tourist Information in Westfield CentrO Oberhausen.

Corporate and Team Events

Flighthour offers team building events for corporate groups, with emergency scenarios including severe turbulence landings, engine failure shortly after takeoff, and fuel leak decisions under time pressure. Teams must take on clear roles, set priorities, and find solutions together — as in a real cockpit. One participant described it as having learned more about communication and decision-making in one hour than in many leadership training sessions.
